Cabinet Hardware Installation Tips

Cabinet hardware installation is really not difficult and a properly placed knob or pull will enhance your cabinets. Gather your tools, take your time with placement and measure very carefully. Then measure again! For measurements you may wish to purchase a measurement template. Your tools will generally consist of a marker, template measuring tool, drill, level and screwdriver. When replacing pulls or handles, make sure your new hardware has the same center to center hole measurement as the old ones.  If not, a backplate will need to be employed to cover the old holes. Typically pulls are mounted 2 to 4 inches from the bottom of the cabinet and at least one inch (typically two inches) from the edge of the cabinet. Knobs are typically placed about 2 inches from the open corner. You should consider using two knobs or pulls on drawers over about 24 inches. Make sure you also have screws of the proper length to extend past the thickness of the cabinet door.  Most cabinet doors are 3/4 inch. Some may be thicker so on both doors and drawers measure the thickness and select the proper length screw.
